I am a Specialist Physician in Public Health Medicine and hold postgraduate qualifications in Paediatrics and Dermatology. I have held leadership positions in Trinidad and Tobago. I am also the published author of four books- THE PETRINE PROMISE (novel), A CONVERSATION WITH CLAUDE, LOGOS BIBLE and THE APOSTOLIC SCRIPTURES.
You might think my journey involves two worlds that seem too far apart- medicine and theology! But they are not really that far apart. Both vocations require compassion, critical analysis and ethics.
As a teenager drawn to theological questions, I followed my intellectual curiosity to a Christian liberal arts college in Denver, Colorado. Here, I balanced my time between pre-med studies and theology studies.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree (with a major in biology and a minor in theology), my pragmatic side took charge and I proceeded to medical school. What has followed has been a fulfilling 37-year career as a physician that I have frequently described as "an honour and a privilege." My medical practice taught me that healing comes in many forms- sometimes through medical interventions and sometimes through spiritual compassion.
Because the questions of faith that captivated my young mind never really faded away- a few years ago, I experienced what I describe as a calling back to my theological pursuits. It was a return to my true intellectual love.
My theological work is founded on three very simple questions. Let me set the context.
Imagine you are a Christian living in the time of Christ and His crucifixion took place three to six months ago. You are trying to make sense of this transformative experience and plan the rest of your life. All you have at your disposal, for guidance, are the books of the Old Testament and copies of notes from His named apostles (Matthew 10:1-4). The same apostles, so you’ve been told, that Christ commissioned to bear witness of His ministry (John 15:27) and the same apostles whose written words would be given to them by God (John 17:6-8).
What are you going to do now? How are you going to take His message and use it to turn your life into something you're proud of? What will you tell others about His message?
That combined message from the Old Testament and Christ's apostles is what I have called the 'early church Bible' or the LOGOS Bible. The LOGOS Bible is composed of 39 Old Testament books and 10 books from the New Testament (the Gospels of Matthew and John, the epistles of James, Peter, John and Jude and the Revelation).
It is my ideal of an early church Bible because it provides a logical theology. Its message is consistent and authentic. It clarifies the cornerstones of Christ’s ministry- personal accountability, social justice and compassion. Active faith.
My belief in the importance of the LOGOS Bible permeates all of my theological explorations. I believe it offers everyone a logical theological framework and can help us solve our contemporary challenges.
During the 37 years of my medical career, I had time to think. This period of contemplation has allowed me to produce, what I consider to be, four thought-provoking books. My background in medicine gave me unique tools for scriptural analysis. I have asked myself hard theological questions and I have looked for answers with intellectual rigour and a willingness to think 'outside the box'.
I believe my theological work speaks to a wide audience- progressive Christians seeking a theological framework, Millennials and Gen Zs asking tough questions about authentic faith and even atheists and agnostics who may be willing to consider a new Bible version that has no contradictions or inconsistencies.
Through my books, courses and my website (https://thelogoslife.org), I invite everyone to reconsider what they thought they knew about Christianity and rediscover Christ’s revolutionary message.
'But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.' (1 Peter 2:9-10, KJV)
"...Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 4:17, KJV)
What does Jesus mean when He says the 'kingdom of heaven is at hand'?
Our online course- Judgment Day, answers this question.
In the LORD's Prayer, Jesus says- "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10, KJV)
Discover what this verse means in our online course- Seek first the Kingdom of God.
Do you obey God's Ten Commandments and embrace the 'testimony of Christ'? Remember what it says in Revelation: '...the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.' (Revelation 12:17, KJV) .
We all know what the Ten Commandments are (even if we don't always follow them) but what is the 'testimony of Christ'? Think of a court trial. Your testimony is the evidence that you give. If we had to sum up Christ's testimony (aka His message and what He stood for), could we do it? Yes! It's so simple...
YOU MUST LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR. BECAUSE IF YOU LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR, THIS IS A SIGN THAT YOU TRULY LOVE GOD (1 JOHN 4:20).
