FIVE COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE UNCHURCHED BELIEVER
They No Longer Believe In God
This is probably the most common misconception about the unchurched believer! For many unchurched believers, it is precisely because of the depth of their faith in God that they have left the modern church. Unchurched believers are busy building God's kingdom on earth by fighting for equality and fighting against injustice. They fervently believe in Christ's core message- LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR (1 John 4:20)!
They No Longer Belong To A Christian Community
People mistakenly believe that when an unchurched believer stops attending church, they lose all contact with a 'believing' community. This is just not true! What usually happens is that their Christian community connections become less structured but they remain just as spiritually fulfilling (and sometimes, even more so).
They Have Stopped Evangelising
Yet another falsehood! Because the unchurched believer still believes in God, they still share the 'good news' that Christ taught us. Often, they let how they live their life become the witness for the existence and the greatness of God (Matthew 5:16).
They Have Joined Another Faith
People leave the church for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, this may include a loss of faith or turning to another faith- e.g. Judaism, Islam, Bahai', etc. But the majority of unchurched believers do not leave Christianity for another faith or even abandon faith in God. Rather, they leave the Church because they believe that it is not adhering accurately enough to Christ's original gospel. Leaving the church, for them, provides an opportunity for deeper faith not less faith!
They Are Unwilling to Join A Church Again
The unchurched believer often 'de-churched' because of fundamental conflicts in doctrinal interpretation. Many would actually be willing to join a church and go back to regular church attendance under the right circumstances. However, for them to return to church, it would require a change in the sermons being preached. Unchurched believers believe that Christ never treated women as second class citizens, they also believe that Christ never excluded people and judged them as being unworthy of love and fellowship and, finally, Christ always taught to us to worship the Father. He never advocated 'Christ idolatry'.

'But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.' The Kingdom of Heaven

The Testimony of Jesus Christ!
Do you obey God's Ten Commandments and embrace the 'testimony of Christ'? Remember what it says in Revelation: '...the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.' (Revelation 12:17, KJV) .
We all know what the Ten Commandments are (even if we don't always follow them) but what is the 'testimony of Christ'? Think of a court trial. Your testimony is the evidence that you give. If we had to sum up Christ's testimony (aka His message and what He stood for), could we do it? Yes! It's so simple...
